GSD Consultancy was founded by Sarah Hale, a qualified management accountant with more than 20 years’ experience in operations consulting.

Over that time, Sarah has worked with businesses across a wide range of industries, including Government, IT, Telecoms, Health & Safety, Oil, Recruitment and Training. She has developed a rare ability to see the bigger operational picture and to identify the fixes that make the biggest difference. Her background combines deep financial expertise with a practical, problem-solving mindset, giving her clients a perspective that most consultants simply can’t offer.

GSD Consultancy was created out of a genuine frustration with the way too many good businesses are let down by their own systems. Most owners are experts in what they do – but running a business demands expertise across every operational function. Sarah’s mission is to bridge that gap: to give SME owners the operational foundation they need to grow with clarity and confidence, rather than spending their days firefighting.

GSD works with established SMEs – typically businesses of up to 20 employees that have been trading for at least 10 years. These are businesses that have grown past their original systems, but haven’t yet had the time, resource or expertise to overhaul them. That’s exactly the problem GSD is built to solve.

Is my business the right fit for GSD Consultancy?

GSD works best with established SMEs – typically businesses with around 20 employees that have been trading for at least 10 years. If you’ve grown beyond your original systems and you’re starting to feel the strain, GSD is almost certainly right for you. The symptoms of operational dysfunction can show up in all sorts of ways – and they tend to get louder the longer they’re left. Most of our clients recognise themselves in at least one of these:

  • Cash flow pressure or late payments you can’t quite get on top of
  • Quality control issues or operational errors that keep recurring
  • Low morale and rising stress levels across the leadership team
  • No real visibility of what’s happening across your business
  • Data entered in more than one place, with no single source of truth

Many of our clients work with us and a coach in parallel, since the two services complement each other well.
Almost certainly, yes. Getting time back for the business owner is one of the most tangible outcomes of our work. Our clients have collectively saved over 105,000 operational hours as a result of improvements we’ve put in place – and much of that time goes straight back to the leadership team, so they can focus on growing rather than firefighting.
The most frequent culprits are duplicated data entry (the same information being typed into more than one system), a lack of joined-up reporting (which means decisions get made on incomplete information), and processes that worked when the business was smaller but haven’t been updated since. Once we fix these at the root, the effect on day-to-day productivity – and on the owner’s stress levels – is usually immediate and substantial.
It depends on what you need. An Ops Boost workshop takes half a day, and you’ll have your recommendations report shortly afterwards. An Ops Transform project typically runs over several weeks, depending on the complexity of your operations. For Consulting COO clients, we work alongside you on an ongoing, retained basis – the commitment is open-ended and structured around your needs.

GSD Consultancy works across all industries across the South East, with the exception of financial services. Businesses in IT and technology tend to be particularly strong partners, since they often encounter operational issues within their own client base. We also find that businesses with high volumes of transactions, stock or subcontractors benefit most quickly and visibly from our work.

Sarah has specialist expertise in CRMs such as Salesforce, HubSpot and Go High Level, though our approach isn’t limited to any particular platform, financial systems including Xero, Quickbooks and FreeAgent, and the full Microsoft 365 suite. We work with whatever systems your business uses, and where we think a different tool would serve you better, we’ll tell you honestly.
